Presidents Report 2019

Season 2019 has been another tremendous year for our club both on-field and off-field.

Congratulations to our U14 Div 2 Girls team for winning the premiership. A thrilling win and it capped off a fantastic season for this team.

Congratulations to Coach Steve for his tireless effort supporting our wonderful club and for being our First stand-alone Premiership coach since the club re-established in 2010. Our first premiership was for our Port South U13 Div 1 Alliance team in 2016. So now we have two premiership flags to display in our new pavilion.

We also had many other fantastic results from many teams, including:

  • U13 Mixed Div 1 - runner-up
  • U13 Mixed Div 3 - runner-up (lost by 1 point)
  • U13 Mixed Div 6 - runner-up
  • U14 Girls Div 2 – PREMIERS!
  • U14 Mixed Div 4 – runner-up (lost by 2 points)
  • U16 Girls Div 2 – runner-up

Congratulations to all our teams that made the finals, of which all resulted in Grand Final appearances. A wonderful effort by all involved.

Overall our teams performed very well – for all our teams that play in a competition with Finals, from U11 and up, our Club averaged position 4 on the ladder.

Club Award:

The award that is the most rewarding for our Club is winning the SMJFL Best Behaved Off-field Club for the 2019 Season.

This award is a direct result that our players, officials, and supporters were professional and courteous throughout the year. Congratulations to all.

On-field this season we had 17 teams within excess of 400 players over 9 Port teams and 8 Port/ South Teams. 5 teams are mixed, 4 teams are girls and 8 teams are boys only.

Our Junior Club keeps growing with new members and more players coming up from Auskick and families relocating to our wonderful area.

Auskick:

We had another solid year with Auskick participants with a good mixture of boys and girls. Thank you to our Auskick Co-ordinators for season 2019, Luke Howie and Admin Shanthi Nadaraja.

We are looking to grow Auskick participants to 150+ via communication at Port Melbourne, South Melbourne and Galilee Primary Schools.

Please encourage any new kids and parents to join.

Apparel:

This year we excelled with off-field apparel. Every team was certainly noticed at each game and all coaches and team managers were easily recognisable.

The overall result was our Club was fitted out the same from U8’s through to the senior football team.

Our online store was a hit and is still open to place orders – order now for the first drop in March. The store can be reached via the club website or the direct link -

Off-field Activities:

This year was quite difficult to generate good net revenue through Food and Beverage sales due to operating out of a portable. However, we must thank everyone for their patience and support during this testing time whilst our new pavilion is being built. Overall the operation was a success as the kids and parents were able to purchase what they needed.

A big thanks goes to Steve and his team throughout the year.

Thank our Sponsors:

Sponsorship is continuing to grow, and we are thankful for all the businesses that support our club with much need funds.

A friendly reminder to support our many sponsors that assist the Junior Football Club.

Without our sponsor's financial contribution, we will not have the resources to run the Club.

We thank our 19 Club Sponsors – our 9 Team Sponsors – our Apparel Sponsor – our 7 Club50 Sponsors.

The NEW Murphy Reserve Pavilion:

The new pavilion is getting closer to completion – currently aimed for mid-February to Early March hand over. Ready for the 2020 season.

As mentioned earlier the past year has been difficult whilst running the Club from transportable and shipping containers, however, I am sure you will all join me in thinking it was well worth the short-term pain.

I stated in last year’s report we are required to pay $55k to the council on practical completion of the building. As of now, our Junior Club will pay $15k due March 2020, which we have put aside following the initial $25k paid last year.

The overall outstanding figure has now increased to $85k (including our $15k) and with help from all Clubs utilizing the new pavilion we will endeavor to raise the balance and some amounts can be financed.

The reason for the increase of $30k is because all clubs made the decision to fit-out the kitchen to a commercial standard so we can offer more meals with the ability to utilize the facility on a regular basis ($10k increase), plus the addition of chairs, tables and AV provisions the council is not providing (circa $20k increase).

In the meantime, we are actively looking for financial support from local businesses to reduce or eliminate the final cost.

Outstanding Club contributions as of November 2019:

  • $15k Colts Juniors (confirmed – due March 2020)
  • $15k for cool room construction. (All Clubs)
  • Circa $35k for Kitchen Equipment. (All Clubs or can be financed through the new pavilion entity)
  • Circa $20k for Chairs, Tables and AV system. (Council will provide 50 chairs and 5 tables)

Our Committee and major roles:

Peter Martin: Vice President, Footy Operations and Child Safety Officer

Annette Maloney: Secretary, Communications and part-time Grounds Manager

Scott Graham: Treasurer, Merchandising Manager and Incident Officer.

Kerry Ashbrook: Marketing and Girls Footy

Olivia Webb: Registrar and part-time Grounds Manager

Steve Schreuder: Food and Beverage Manager

Luke Howie and Shanthi Nadaraja: Auskick Coordinators

Les Stewart: Grounds Manager and Game Day Trainer

Rod Sharpin: Coaching coordinator

I thank you all.

Finally: To all coaches, team managers, trainers, helpers and MOST importantly to the kids. Well done on another fantastic year at the Colts and thank you for your efforts.

Reminder to ALL Coaches – you need to nominate for season 2020

To the Kids - Keep fit over Summer. Continue to Love our game and we will be in touch soon regarding some group training for pre-season.

Thank you again for your wonderful contribution this season.
