Girls pathways to Borough and Women's VFL Bid in 2019

Monday 14th Aug, 2017

With the success of the AFLW and the booming participation numbers at Port Colts Junior Girls football, President Michael Shulman at Port Borough indicated that the Borough’s formal entry into the women’s football landscape was a natural progression and further enhances the Club’s community development program.

The Club’s Board as a whole has been working hard behind the scenes to finalise a structure for Port Melbourne to officially field a women’s team.

Kerry Ashbrook (Girls Footy Committee Member at Port Colt Juniors), was recently appointed director of the PMFC and is excited about strenghtening the pathway for girls in the local community.

The PMFC plan is to offer the Port Colts girls a formal pathway to play for the Borough in Division 1 of the South Eastern Women’s Football League in 2018 (pending approval for entry into that competition); and to also provide support to our local Port Colts Senior Football Club in launching their Women’s ‘Development’ Team (framework pictured below).

Ultimately, the PMFC would expect our Women’s team to play VFLW – hopefully in season 2019, pending the granting of a licence.
