A great effort from all today away in Caulfield for a very early start for the first round of the season, and great to walk out of their with the win.

 

The low score was a reflection of the boys now having to play a full size oval instead of the modified length we have played the past few seasons, which will take a little bit of getting used to, and also the battle in the middle of the ground where the ball spent around 80% of the game time.

 

As a team we have plenty of areas to improve on, but as a whole we played great today, at several times the backline in Angus, Archie, Elias, Harry.K, Harry.N, Ryan, Owen and Nibiro were under alot of pressure, and to their credit they managed to get out of danger.

 

Taking nothing away from a great Ajax team, the midfield brigade in Sam, George.R, Zeplin, Hugo, Reuben, Thomas and George.K were huge today and will sleep well tonight. It was a constant arm wrestle but once the boys learnt to stay composed and hold up play until we had the numbers forward of the ball instead of just kicking it and causing a turnover, things become alot easier to move the ball. 

 

Our forward line in Tyler, Bailey, Lucas, Sunny, Harvey, George.A, Gene and Lochy had their work cut out for them today also, with a big space to work with we had plenty of chances but just couldn't quite convert them to scores, but still a great effort considering.

 

Looking forward to Wednesday night training to iron out a few things from the game today that is going to put us in a really strong position for the rest of the year.

 

Thanks again to all the Volunteers for their help today, and to all the parents for the 6:30am wake up to get the boys to the ground by 7:30am.
